The Isle Wiki

Strains are genetically-enhanced dinosaurs, designed to be as deadly as possible. Their origins are mysterious and left unexplained, though they appear to be somehow linked to the various warehouses and labs scattered across the island.

It is said that Carnivores and even the Primitive People of the island will be able to unlock these strains by surviving for long enough, although very little details apart from that have been mentioned.

There are three strain variants currently planned for The Isle: Hyperendocrin, Neurotenic, and Tissoplastic. The aforementioned Magna variant/Strain has been disconnected from The Isle's lore. There are possibly more strains that have not been publicly mentioned.

Development Status:[]

From Seiza (Developer), 2.11.2020:

  • The Strain Mechanic will only come out when:
  • When all the planned dinosaurs are finished
  • When all Elder models are finished
  • Only selected species get different Strains.

Edge info[]

From Dinosauriac (Developer), 12.03.2019:
"The systems for strain creatures are still a long way from being finalized, so don't get too excited just yet. It will be quite a while before you can properly play as them.
The current priority for the near future is re-working core areas such as combat and network performance, with plans to clean out a lot of old code and make things more stable and efficient"

Note: Dinosauriac no longer works for The Isle

How to unlock them[]

After the player completes their Elder life stage, instead of dying of old age, they will face two choices;

  • They can either choose to end their dinosaur's life and gain a permanent bonus perk for their dinosaur.
  • Or the player rejects this and develops further into a Strain.

Edge info[]

In the Dev Q&A, Dondi (Developer) mentions the island will be occupied by "horrifying things". Some will eat you, or melt you, but the important thing is:

  • Some could change your DNA
  • Some will take parts away that you did not know you had

…and after a few hours as an Adult, you then grow to a Strain.

Interestingly, another Developer, BryanPhillips, claims that you do not "grow" into a Strain, you evolve into it meaning there is a specific enhancement to be done to gain the Strain.

Type-H: Hyperendocrin[]

0432CB85-D045-43D6-BD84-34254004FCF5

All current "Hyper" dinosaurs.

Designed to kill with sheer brute force, Hyperendocrin dinosaurs are massive, fast, loud, and starving. Their insatiable hunger drives them to slaughter and consume entire herds of dinosaurs, while their super-regeneration and bulletproof skin makes any form of retaliation useless. The only known reliable way to kill a Hyperendocrin dinosaur is to starve it out.

Traits:[]

  • Massive increase in size
  • Super regeneration
  • Giant health boost
  • Thick armor
  • Insatiable appetite

Species:[]

The Endocrine:
The endocrine system is an organ system that, among other functions, regulates metabolism, hence the name Hyperendocrin, or hyper-metabolism. It is for this reason that Hyperendocrin creatures must eat almost constantly in order to survive, and have the energy to run at high speeds for extremely prolonged periods of time. Bullet immunity or resistance may also be granted while in this form.

Type-N: Neurotenic[]

Possessing a veiny and almost slimy appearance, Neurotenic dinosaurs have extremely powerful brains - so powerful in fact, that the energy emitted from their own nervous systems can read the minds and memories of other nearby creatures (In Legacy Lore). Neurotenic Mastermind also is capable of mimicking voices it has heard, with the voices heard in transmissions are from already deceased individuals that are now being used as lures.

Traits (Not Reconfirmed yet):[]

  • Enhanced size
  • Telepathic communication
  • Sound mimicry
  • Can release a huge blast of bioelectricity, creating an EMP
  • Can blur the vision of other creatures through intense electrical presence. Dinosaurs which are close to it get a "visual snow" on their screens

Species:[]

Type-T: Tissoplastic[]

Impossibly sharp and horrifyingly stealthy, Tissoplastic dinosaurs are as silent as they are lethal. Staying unseen through impeccable camouflage, they slice their victims with extreme precision.

Traits:[]

  • Enhanced mobility
  • Camouflage ability
  • Acid spit

Species:[]

Type-M: Magna (Scrapped)[]

Claimed to be a much more "refined" version of the Hyperendocrin strain, Magna dinosaurs possess the qualities of a Hyperendocrin dinosaur without the negative side effects of starvation. It was also referred to as a "Variant" and less so as a strain, although had still fit in the same category.

These creatures will no longer be coming to The Isle, this is due to the disconnection of Primal Carnage's lore with The Isle's lore. ( Magnas and Phoenix corporation have been wiped from the lore. )

Dondi gave written hints on 9.8.22, in the official Discord, that "Type-M" will be replaced by "Type-O" (O>M).
But it is also scrapped, because "Type-O" is also no longer canon.

Traits:[]

  • Strong increase in size (although not as strong as with a hyper)
  • Not impossible to kill, but very difficult
  • A very keen sense of smell
  • Detection of body heat through special infrared vision

Species:[]

Other[]

It is important to note that the "Eyeless" was originally referred to as the "Cannibals", however, Dondi confirmed that the "Cannibals" were actually just another name for the Tribal (Gen 1) class- Whereas the eyeless creatures, have no name publicly (It's official name only known to the devs) and have been referred to as The Eyeless unofficially for the time being.

A behemoth skeleton was once visible within the canyons of a previous V3 Map iteration, and can still be found today deeply submerged within the Titan Lake Dam of current V3. There is no confirmation of what it is, what it once was, or how it died. All that has been said by the Developers is that it did not die from starvation, hinting that this mysterious skeleton is indeed the remains of a strain, but not from a Hyperendocrin.
