Dryosaurus is a human-sized herbivorous ornithopod, that is playable on The Isle.

Dryosaurus was added to The Isle in Patch 0.0.0.43. Dryosaurus was re-added to The Isle in Evrima Patch 0.5.12.08 as both a playable creature and an AI.

In Real Life[]

Dryosaurus was first discovered in 1876 by Samuel Wendell Williston while on a fossil hunting expedition in Albany County, Wyoming. 2 years later, this specimen would be named Dryosaurus by Professor Othniel Charles Marsh. The name means “ tree lizard” because it was assumed that it lived in forrests.

Dryosaurus is believed to have lived all across North America and Africa. Paleontologists have found specimens in United States in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and have also found some in Tanzania in Africa.

If you look at images of Dryosaurus, then you’ll quickly notice that these dinosaurs have long bodies that seem to have been built for speed. They were herbivores, probably living off a diet of ginkgo, conifers and cycads. They may have also consumed leaves that had fallen on the forrest floors.

Dryosaurus had a long neck and a stiff tail. Scientists have theorized that this dinosaur used its neck and tail for balance. This would have allowed it to run on its 2 legs at very high speeds without losing balance. It would have also allowed this dinosaur to keep balanced while it picked up food with its 5 fingered claws. Especially items that it may have had to pick up off of the ground.

These dinosaurs had large eyes, a horny beak and a toothless upper front jaw. That’s not to say that it didn’t have teeth, however. Dryosaurus also had self-sharpening cheek teeth that were probably used to masticate plant material. Scientists also believe that these dinosaurs may have also used their cheeks to store food–much like a chipmunk or a hamster.

Habitat[]

Dryosaurus is said to feed in the open plains, where it shares this habitat with Triceratops, Monocloniosaurus and Maiasaura. Dryosaurus uses these two large herbivores as protection from larger carnivores. When danger is near, Dryosaurus will let out a loud scream, alerting the other herbivores to the threat.

In The Isle[]

Small, harmless and adorable, the Dryosaurus is small and weak, but it makes up for this with its amazing speed, agility, stamina and ability to hide in burrows. Its impressive speed can save it from most carnivores, and if not it can hide in its burrows.

The Dryosaurus has the ability to burrow. (via the right-click button). This ability can be used to hide and avoid predators, as they can not enter your burrow, except Juvenile Utahraptors. To exit, right-click again.

Dryosaurus in Evrima have the ability to dodge, similar to the Evrima Utahraptor's alt-bite. This is very effective for getting away from predators in dense jungle.

Diet (Evrima)[]

The Dryosaurus' preferred diet consists of Variegated oranges for carbohydrates, Agave for proteins and the roots of the Sunchoke Flower for lipids.

Variegrated oranges are found along the coasts, especially in the Southwest.

Sunchoke Roots and Agave are found on the plains. Care must be taken when foraging here, as cover is sparse, allowing Dryosaurus to be spotted and run down by Carnotaurus and other predators with ease. In addition, the winding rivers that mark the center of Isla Spiro there are favored waters for Deinosuchus, making it risky to drink as well.

"One of the island's more adorable inhabitants, the Dryosaurus is famous for its agility, maneuverability and small stature. A favourite snack amongst the carnivorous population, encouraging the Dryosaurus to hide itself away from what it can't outrun, within the safety of its burrow."
